Internet and computers

The computers in the Children’s Library are for use by children and young people. Library computers automatically shut down 15 minutes before the library closes. You will be warned when your session is coming to an end. If you finish early, please log out to save your unused time.

  • Our computers use filtering software to help reduce the risk of you or your child accessing inappropriate content, but please be aware that this is not 100 percent effective.
  • You can open and edit your own documents on Council computers if they’re in a compatible format.
  • There is now no charge to use our computers in Council run libraries or other Council premises.
  • You will be warned when your session is coming to an end.
  • It is for people who would like to understand how computers work, without having to learn a lot of technical details.

Libraries also offer printing facilities including WiFi printing. Staff will be more than happy to help you with any IT query you may have.

Government activity

During a week, you may book up to nine hours in total. You can book multiple sessions per day, but must take a break between any two sessions of 30 minutes at the Library of Birmingham or 20 minutes at community libraries. Bookings are held for 10 minutes from the session start time. At the library, go straight to the booked computer and enter your library card number and PIN.

Every UCL student gets a user ID and password so you can access services. You can join Oxfordshire Libraries for free at any time. Please be aware that you will lose your session if you do not take up your reservation within 10 minutes of the start time. If computers are available when you arrive, you can use them until the next booked session begins. The login screen will tell you how long you have until the next booking. Acceptable use of wifi

If you have a library membership card, you can book by calling or visiting your local library. Buckinghamshire Libraries provide loanable tablets known as Hublets, at various libraries in Buckinghamshire for customers to use while in the library. These loanable tablets should remain inside the library buildings and are subject to the terms outlined in this policy. Our wifi service is not encrypted and as such information sent over the network may be liable to interception by others. Children and young people aged 8 to 15 years must be library members and have parental permission to use the library computers.
