Like all computers, embedded systems are subject to Moore’s Law, and are increasing in capability, year by year, thus increasing the opportunity for application management and control. The course will engage you imaginatively in the process of learning through creative hands-on group and individual project based activities, enabling you to develop your independent critical thinking and judgement. The aim of the module is to introduce the application of information, information systems and information technologies within organisations and understand the impact of such systems on organisational performance. Group and individual projects are an important part of your learning experience. They give you technical, business and management skills to solve engineering problems relevant to industry. You could explore areas including computer systems design and integration, or information systems and interfaces.

Please note that for purposes of entry to this course the Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills – Application of Number is NOT regarded as an acceptable alternative to GCSE Maths. Modules are assessed through a wide variety of methods including class tests, logbooks, individual and collaborative coursework assignments, project dissertation, oral presentations and class tests. The AI Institutes support foundational and translational research in AI technology and its application to vital sectors of the economy, as well as education and workforce development for the next generation of AI talent. Modern communication devices, systems, and networks are expected to support a broad range of critical and essential services, incorporating computation, coordination, and intelligent decision-making. The resiliency of such systems, which subsumes security, adaptability, and autonomy, will be a key driving factor for future NextG—or Next Generation—network systems. You will study five advanced courses drawn from a wide range of our research and technical specialisms. You will also conduct a substantial individual project, on a topic of your choice or suggested by an academic, lasting the whole year. If a student does not satisfy the accreditation requirements but does satisfy the requirements for a standard QMUL BEng/MEng degree, the “EngC Pathway” suffix will not be added. In the final year, you’ll design and carry out an individual project based on your own interests and linked to current research areas within the schools. If the University discontinues any courses, it will use its best endeavours to provide a suitable alternative course. Fees illustrated are based on academic year 22/23 entry and are subject to an annual increase. This module addresses the various options involved in designing a computer system, the range of design considerations, and the trade-offs involved in the design process. Year 1 Level

Engineering applications are typically complex, so students also need to acquire proficiency in analytical problem solving and the ability to apply a systems engineering approach, as a systematic methodology to design and implementation. A group project will develop an understanding of the type of problem solving and systems engineering needed for the design and build of a computer-controlled system. Students will improve skills in communication, team working and reflective practices as a result of the group project. Engineering applications in manufacturing, aerospace, robotics, energy, finance, healthcare and a host of other areas are predominately computer based or computer controlled. In order to be able to create computer based and computer controlled applications, students need to acquire proficiency in relevant software and programming languages.

The aim of this module is to introduce a range of advanced mathematical methods appropriate to the needs of second year engineering students. Equip students with the essential skills to carry out technical projects in an academic environment. In the first year you’ll cover the foundations of each discipline, with modules in programming, circuit design, communications and signals. With a wide choice of modules in your second and final years, you’re free to direct your studies towards your aims and interests.
